Due to the overwhelming email requests for help we receive on a daily basis from people needing to surrender their feline companions, we are providing key resource information below. The Feline Welfare Society is unable to take in additional feline companions at this time. We are not a shelter, and only have a very limited number of foster homes, all of which are over capacity at this time. We wish we could take in every cat in need, but it just is not feasible. We do not have the funding to support this widespread problem, and are directing people in need to the following resources.

FAMILY FELINE COMPANIONS:
We are deeply distressed by the number of people needing to relinquish their family feline companions. We are asking those families to consider the following options:
  • Contact your veterinarian. Request to place a sign with the cat's photo and description on the bulletin boards of veterinarian offices. They may have clients looking for a new family member.
  • Try to work out an arrangement with a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. If your situation is urgent, this could simply be a temporary solution to buy you additional time to find the perfect loving new home for your cat.
  • Behavioral Issues? If your cat is exhibiting inappropriate behavior, it may be due to a medical condition, and the cat should be examined by your veterinarian. If no medical condition exists, and the cat persists with his/her inappropriate behavior, contact CATS INTERNATIONAL at (262) 375-8852 or www.catsinternational.org . They have a team of feline behavioralists who will provide FREE advice. They offer the best advice on litterbox issues, scratching, aggression, and behavioral issues in general.
  • Website Classifieds: Petfinder offers FREE classified ads for animals that need to be adopted under the Classifieds menu at http://www.petfinder.com . You can also go to the Animal Shelters tab and select Animal Shelters by distance or state to find a comprehensive list of shelters in your area.
  • Please contact the H.O.P.E. Clinic at (203) 437-7955 for low cost spay/neuter veterinary care.
  • Contact www.ourcompanions.com . They offer assistance and education on all levels.
TRAP & RESCUE FERAL CATS:
If you are in need of help trapping and rescuing feral cats, we are encouraging those people to contact the H.O.P.E. Spay/Neuter Clinic, Inc. located on 130 Scott Road A-4, Waterbury, CT 06705 and can be reached at (203) 437-7955. They have humane traps that you can borrow. They are Connecticut's high volume, reduced cost spay/neuter clinic for cats and dogs. You can also seek out additional assistance and information at www.ourcompanions.com for the proper care of feral cats.
H.O.P.E. Clinic FEE SCHEDULE:
Feral Cats: $45.00 includes spay or neuter, Rabies vaccine & first FVRCP vaccine (Distemper).
The spay/neuter cost for family companions may differ. Please verify this with a H.O.P.E. Clinic representative.
Feral Cats: $18.00 for a "Snap Test" which determines if a cat has feline aids or leukemia. We highly recommend having the vet perform this simple affordable blood test to prevent the spread of disease in managed cat colonies.
Feral Cats: Ear Mite and Deworming Treatments: $8 - $12 per application. Very important!
We wish you the best and thank you for taking these very important steps to improve the lives of these helpless feline friends.

Thank you.
